I think of Sundays as the calm before the storm. I don’t feel guilty for slowing down or taking my time to enjoy something I haven’t had the time to do all week, recharge, and hopefully – get insipiration to create.
This is a book I had already read a few years ago, which a friend recommended to me before I moved to Paris. He said, “if you want to understand the French, you need to read this“. He was right! The author is British, but his perspective is still very relatable for us North Americans since our society (yes, even French colony Quebec) is very Anglo-Saxon. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to read about the subtle clashes and nuances that make the French culture distinctive and endearing. I laughed, and at times, I got slightly offended – but still miss my life in France dearly.
If anyone has read Les Carnets du Major Thompson, let me know your thoughts in the comments below – happy Sunday!
